Release Your Quest presented by Dance Up Close/East Bay; August 9-11, 2013

created by Troy Macklin, a 2013 Artist-in-Residence at Shawl-Anderson Dance Center

I am inspired by Shawl-Anderson as a vibrant and culturally rich community space, as well as the many relationships I have built within these communities since arriving here. Dancers, visual artists and musicians have been my source of inspiration throughout this process and by fostering opportunities through artistic collaborations, my fellow artists and I have explored the relationships humans build in life and how we grow; what happens when we are constantly challenged, pushed, sometimes shoved to the floor? What’s our reaction, how are we affected, how does that develop the human relationship?

We have created an evening of artistic expression allowing us as artists to seek many quests, grow together and share a unique and powerful experience.
